Readers of The Flaw of Averages may remember my comparison of Monte Carlo simulation to shaking a ladder before climbing it. The distribution of forces produced by shaking a ladder is garbage compared with the forces produced by climbing it. Yet nobody I know has stopped shaking ladders!
